SOUTHPORT — Jon Barry “J.B.” Sabin, 63, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017.
Jon was born March 30, 1954, to the late Joseph and Pattsie Sabin. He was a graduate of the Art Institute in San Francisco, and a veteran of the Coast Guard. Jon was an award-winning painter and sculptor. Jon enjoyed gardening and loved to get his hands dirty. He was an avid toy collector and had over a thousand Barbie Dolls.
As an artist, J.B. described himself as follows, “Currently, I’ve been experimenting with my background as a deconstructionist/reconstructionist artist in the Expressionist/Impressionist world of painting and photography. I’m using mixed media to show how complex it is being an older man in a culture that tries to conform us all … fit and sensual/sexual … “forever 18.”
Survivors include his brother, Patrick Sabin of Sacramento, Calif.; three sisters, Marye Chastain of Dawsonville, Ga., Joanne Keener of Clyde, N.C., and Teresa Sabin of Southport, N.C.; and two nephews and three nieces.
A memorial service will be held in Charlotte, N.C., at a later date.
