LELAND — Durwood Keith Creech, 64, went to be with his Lord Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice with his family by his side. Born Sept. 12, 1952, he was a son of the late Walter and Delia Powell Creech.
Durwood was employed with McKee Foods (Little Debbie Snack Cakes) for over 35 years. He enjoyed golfing and spending time with all of his special friends. He was great at cooking on the grill, loved working in the yard, helping neighbors with projects and spoiling his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by the love of his life of 19 years, Shirley Byerly of the home; daughters, Carla Creech of Hampstead, Tori Creech- Swencki (Mike) of Fayetteville and Kaitlin Horne (Lance) of Richlands; Shirley’s children, who he loved as well, Sherry Hedrick (Shannon) and Roger Byerly; the two apples of his eye, Haleigh and Bella Coronado; grandson, Keenen Horne; sister, Janice Barefoot (Jerry) of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Linwood Creech.
A special thank you to his team of doctors, especially Dr. Zeman and Dr. Schreiber, the wonderful staff at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and to all of his friends and neighbors who were there for Durwood during his time of illness.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 5, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 6, at the funeral home with the Rev. John Sauls officiating. Entombment will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
