WILMINGTON — Audrey Rose Howard Meyer, 81, passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, May 28, 2017.
She was born April 11, 1936, in Shamrock, Texas, a daughter of the late William Franklin Howard and Merle May Mann Howard.
Surviving are her son, Ronald Meyer, and his wife, Terri, of Wilmington; a granddaughter, Aimee Meyer Norris, and her husband, Regan, of Columbia, S.C.; great-grandson, River Norris; and grandson, Nicholas Dean Meyer of Wilmington.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 62 years, Donald Walter Meyer, Feb. 9, 2017; her son, Donald Walter Meyer Jr., three sisters, Bertha, Lillie, and Betty; and brother, Samuel.
Audrey attended grade school in Shamrock, Texas, and Tipton, Okla. She completed grade school and three years of high school in Tipton, Okla. She completed and graduated from high school at Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico.
In 1963, she graduated and was licensed from the Beauty College in Wichita Falls, Texas. Audrey attended Black Hills State College at Spearfish, S.D., and graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in elementary education and special education. She was a member of Kappa Delta Pi.
Throughout her life, Audrey was always active in the church. She attended the Church of Christ before marriage and the Lutheran church after marriage. She sang in the church choir and was very active in many church functions.
Audrey always enjoyed playing the piano and painting with oil. Her painting of the “Lord’s Supper” and “He Is Risen” are hanging on the wall of the Nave in the Church of Reconciliation in Wilmington, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 17, at Messiah Lutheran Church with Pastor Timothy Steele officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the service hour. A graveside service will be held at a later time at the Pine Slope Cemetery in Belle Foursche, S.D.
