Hugh E. Cason Jr., 88, traveled to all 50 states

HAMPSTEAD — Hugh E. Cason Jr., 88, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017. He was born March 9, 1929, in Wilmington, N.C., to Hugh and Mildred Cason who, along with his beloved wife, Janet, and son, Tim, preceded him in death.

Hugh grew up in Charlottesville and Washington, D.C., and loved to tell stories of his growing-up years. He first spotted the beautiful Janet Jowers when he saw her cheerleading at a rival high school and said, “That’s the girl for me!” And, for the next 64 years, she was.

They married in 1950, settled in Maryland and welcomed children Tim, Cindy and Tom. He was a loving and involved father. Hugh was a CPA and CEO of Stoy, Malone & Company in Bethesda Md. He was active in the Lions Club for many years.

He was an avid sports fan, starting with attending Senators games as a boy with his dad. He had season tickets to the Redskins, as well as Maryland football and basketball, and he and Janet loved going to games together. He enjoyed playing golf, which he did until just a few years ago.

He retired in 1983 to Topsail Island, N.C., and then to Hampstead. He and Janet began their many long RV trips and other travels. They spent at least one night in all 50 states.

He is survived by daughter, Cindy Justice, and her husband, Mark; son, Tom Cason, and his wife, Jeannette; grandchildren, Joshua (Erica), Megan and Casey (Nikki); and great-grandchildren, James, Julie and Molly.

Hugh was a man who loved his wife, his family and his God. You could find no finer gentleman. He was a member of First Christian Church.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 27, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel with the Rev. Danny Justice officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Wilmington.
