David Carl Frederick, 68, known for his gift of conversation

OCEAN ISLE BEACH — David Carl Frederick, 68, passed away suddenly Sunday, May 14, 2017, at his home.

He was born in Gastonia, N.C., the son of the late Carl Pearson Frederick and Bonnie Campbell Frederick. He graduated from Frank L. Ashley High School and attended Western Carolina University and Gaston College.

He proudly volunteered to serve his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1968 to 1970 and was a member of Paul Ray Purgason Detachment 1005 Marine Corp League in Shallotte. He retired as president of Improved Services Inc., a textile parts distributor, and a business that he began in the basement of his home in 1981.

David and Molly moved to Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., in 1992 and enjoyed a more relaxed pace of life. We will remember David’s gift of conversation with anyone and everyone, and his kindness and generosity will never be forgotten. His legacy will be his deep love of God, family, friends and country.

Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Molly Howard Frederick; sister, Joanne Frederick Clubb Hayes (Matt) of Gastonia; nieces, Lindsay Clubb Lail (Ernie) of Kings Mountain, N.C., and Shannon Clubb of Gastonia; and a beloved great niece, Aubrey Lail.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 19, at Shallotte Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Causey officiating. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends at the Shallotte Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
