LELAND — Martin Scott “Marty” MacDonald, 58, died Monday, April 24, 2017.

Marty was born Sept. 9, 1958, in Presque Isle, Maine, son of Marilyn Adams MacDonald and the late Gary MacDonald.

A graduate of Brewer High School, Marty went on to get a B.S. from University of Maine and an MBA from Thomas College. Marty worked in the pulp and paper industry for many years and recently retired from ABB, where he was director of its U.S. Federal Government Initiative.

Marty was an avid skier, golfer, outdoorsman and chef. He loved spending time with family and friends, particularly if barbecue, bacon and/or beer was involved. He was a dedicated and devoted husband, father and grandfather.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of 36 years, Kathy MacDonald; daughter, Dr. Jessica MacDonald (Josh Shabtai); granddaughter, Gemma Shabtai; two sisters, Angee Poirier (Matt) and Tracey Cleaveland (Chris); niece, Sydney Cleaveland; nephew, Max Cleaveland; and numerous loving friends and family.

A memorial service to celebrate Marty’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 29, at Andrews Market Street Chapel, followed by a service held later this year in Maine.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marty’s memory may be made to Audubon North Carolina.
