
WILMINGTON — Cornelia Dowd Doss died Friday, April 21, 2017.
She was born Cornelia Jordan Dowd on July 15, 1933, in Charlotte, N.C., the daughter of Elisabeth Mebane Robins and James Edward ‘Bill’ Dowd. She grew up in Charlotte and spent her summers at Wrightsville Beach.
Her paternal grandparents were Eloise Jordan Butt and William
Carey Dowd of Charlotte. Her maternal grandparents were Evelyn
Spotswood Berkeley and Charles Russell Robins of Richmond,
Va. Her husband was Lemuel Lowe Doss Jr. of Wilmington. Her sister
was Elisabeth Mebane Dowd of Charlotte.
She is survived by her brother, Berkeley Robins Dowd; children,
Stephen Cannon Nowell IV, Elisabeth Robins Nowell, Edward Dowd Nowell and Sarah Cornelia Nowell Archer (Harry III); stepchildren, Laura Parsely Doss Geddy (Vernon III) and Lemuel Lowe Doss III (Mary); and grandchildren, Harry James Archer IV, Charles Russell
Robins Archer, James Edward Dowd Archer, Vernon Meredith Geddy IV, William Cole Geddy, John McLaurin Geddy, Lemuel Lowe Doss IV, Robert Harrison Doss and Sarah Randolph Doss.
She was a member of The Child Development Center, serving as president for several years. She was an active member of St. James Parish.
A visitation will be at her residence in Wilmington from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 23. A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 24, at St. James Parish, Wilmington. A service will also be held in Charlotte at a later date.
