SUNSET BEACH — John Patrick “Pat” Barber, 69, died Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, from complications of pneumonia. He was born in Southport, N.C., on March 11, 1947, a son of the late John Alexander Barber and Jewell Hewett Barber.
He was an I.T. director and computer programmer; a fisherman; a teller of tall tales with just an element of truth; a photographer; a gardener; and a fantastic cook.
Surviving are his loving wife, Judy Lewis Barber; sons, Jonathan Barber of Wilmington and Wayne Marshall Sessions Jr. of Conway, S.C.; daughters, Joanna Long (Bobby Long) of Winnabow, Jennifer Crane (Dave Crane) of Elon, N.C., and Lynn Sessions Defluneri (Rodney Delfluneri) of Chapin, S.C.; brothers, Mike Barber and Richard Barber, both of Wilmington and Bev Barber of Hawaii; sister, Kim Cornelius of Ocean Isle Beach; cherished granddaughter, Emily McCartney; and his amazing 95-year-old mother-in-law, Mary Grace Lewis of Charleston, S.C.
A service honoring his life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16, at Brunswick Funeral Service, Shallotte. Family and friends are kindly invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
