WILMINGTON — Delores J. “Jean” Doster Auten, 86, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017. Jean was born on Sept. 24, 1930, to Arietta Pope and Jack Doster in Charlotte.
Jean moved with her husband, Jack Auten, from her birthplace in Charlotte, N.C., in 1961. She was a proud graduate of Charlotte Tech High School, where she was head cheerleader and Miss Tech High School as well as the secretary of her senior class. She loved reading and had a passion for old movies and traveling to see her children. Jean was employed by Coble Ward Smith for many years and Johnson Control and Sears.
She was a dedicated and faithful member of Pine Valley Baptist Church. For many years, she taught the Deborah Sunday School Class and later was a member of the Dorcas class there.
Jean was a proud mom of daughter, Karen Moriarty; and sons, Kim (Cindy) of Wilmington, and Ken of Orlando, Fla. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Kimberly Shepard (Jon) and Caroline and Christopher Auten; great-grandchildren, Austin and Chloe Shepard; and beloved brother, Charles Doster of Charlotte, N.C.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 14, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service with Pastor Brian Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or Pine Valley Baptist Church.
