CALABASH — Luther Devon “Tink” Hughes, 77, died Monday, Jan. 9, 2017.
Born in Brunswick County on March 27, 1939, he was a son of the late Roy Hughes and Gurtie Smith Hughes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Christine Hughes; and his siblings, Carlton, Weldon, Curtis, Elwood, Melton, Skinner and Myrie.
He was a retired dredge boat captain and owner of L.D. Hughes Trucking Company.
Surviving are his wife, Brenda Godwin Hughes; daughters, Karen Buffkin of Ash, Tina Floyd of Calabash and Tammy Harden (Nicky) of Williamsburg, Va.; son, DeWayne Evans (Tina) of Ash; sisters, Loretta Hewett (Danny) of Ash and Lula Mae Phelps of Supply; and seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at Thomasboro Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Dallas Byrd and the Rev. Larry Ward officiating. Burial will follow in Coleman Cemetery, Ash. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church. Casket bearers will be Kenny Hughes, Danny Geddings, Scott Hewett, Kim Hewett, Trent Phelps, Warren Phelps and Larry Medlin.
