Bonnie Smith Holliday, 72, owner of Down Under Connections travel agency

WILMINGTON — Bonnie Smith Holliday, 72, passed away Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center due to heart complications.

She was born January 30, 1944, at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, the daughter of the late Grady F. Smith and Mabel Price Smith.

Ms. Holliday lived in Falls Church, Va.; Cornelia, Ga.; Atlanta, Ga.; Hong Kong, China; Sydney, Australia; until finally settling in Wilmington, N.C.

Bonnie was a professor at Dekalb Technical College followed by a long career with IBM as an advertising executive, then, she became the owner of Down Under Connections travel agency. Bonnie was a pioneer of her era as a woman in industry. She enjoyed music, ballroom dancing, reading and politics.

She is survived by her brothers, Jeffrey Alan Smith of Orlando, Fla., and Richard Russell Smith of Chamblee, Ga.; sister, Carolyn Louise McNeely, and her husband, Ken, of Atlanta, Ga.; nephews, Brian and Andrew Smith; and numerous friends.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
