Davey Lee “David” Meshaw, 86, loved boating at Wrightsville Beach

WILMINGTON — Davey Lee “David” Meshaw, 86, a longtime resident of Wilmington, went home to be with his Lord Friday, Dec. 9, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born on March 17, 1930, to the late Rosa Lee and Jasper Talmadge Meshaw of Wilmington and was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Talmadge Meshaw.

David, as he was affectionately called by those who knew him, is survived by his three sons, Michael Dave Meshaw, and his wife, Cheryl, of Greenville, N.C., Edward Lee Meshaw, and his wife, Beverly, and Gregory Meshaw of Wilmington; stepson, Donald McLamb, and his wife, Carolyn, of Wilmington; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved his family and was much loved by them as well.

David was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a master mechanic and well known for his specialty with automatic transmissions. He was employed for many years at Wilmington’s Raney Chevolet. He loved going to Wrightsville Beach with his boat and was also an avid New York Yankee baseball fan. He loved flowers and animals and was even known for training squirrels to join him in his garage at Castle Street Motors. He enjoyed life and was a joy to be around.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A graveside memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the mission’s ministries of Grace Baptist Church, 1401 North College Road, Wilmington, NC 28405; or Grace Church, 3551 South Charles Blvd., Greenville, NC 27858.
