LELAND — The Rev. Vaster Emanuel, 80, passed away on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
He was born on June 22, 1936, in Dillon, S.C., the son of the late Alner and Carrie Hewitt Emanuel.
Vaster is survived by his beloved wife, Gloria; children, Mary Rice, and her husband, Andy, Rhonda Emanuel, and Rachel Weir, and her husband, Brad; stepchildren, Cindy Patterson, David Patterson and James Patterson; brothers, Lyn Emanuel and Lee Emanuel; and sister, Frances Carnes. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Together, with his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Joyce Heather Emanuel.
The Rev. Emanuel devoted over 50 years of his life serving as an evangelist, pastor and missionary. Vaster also served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 to 1959.
The family will receive friends at a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation, Village Road Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, at Wallace True Gospel Emmanuel Holiness Church, 2539 Grants Mill Road, Wallace, SC 29596.
Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
