WILMINGTON – James Ernest Hearn III, 71, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born Jan. 23, 1945, in Wilmington, North Carolina.
He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina-Wilmington and was a founding brother of TKE, Wilmington Chapter. He continued his education at Emory University where he earned his Master’s degree. He was a member of the American Legion, Sons of the Confederacy and served in the National Guard. Jim enjoyed fishing, reading and was a Civil War buff.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Delfina Carmen Bueso Hearn and a brother, Ron Hearn.
Survivors include his wife, Marion Smith Hearn; daughters, Cheryl Hearn Lawley (Dr. Chris Lawley) and Meredith Hearn Dockery (Jason Dockery); grandchildren, Ashton, Baylor, Annabelle and Alex; sister, Maria Vereen (Joseph); brother, Michael Hearn (Joy); sister-in-law, Laura Hearn and nephew, David Hearn.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Rd., Wilmington, NC.
