Mary Helen Gurley Tuck, 87, worked as a nurse for many years

Mary Helen Gurley Tuck, 87, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at her residence. Mrs. Tuck was a member of the Buck Creek Bible Chapel and worked as a nurse for many years.

She was born on March 3, 1929, in Durham, the daughter of the late Walter Holloway and Tessie Beck Holloway. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie Daniel Gurley Jr. and Oscar Clinton Tuck; two brothers, Jimmy and Frank; and three sisters, Mattie, Becky and Doris.

Surviving are her son, Robert Gurley of Shallotte; daughter, Edith Gurley Atwood of Supply; two sisters, Grace Proctor of Durham and Peggy Thompson of Wilmington; two grandchildren, William Green Jr., and his wife, Kristina, and Krystle Atwood; and six great-grandchildren, Donnivan Rivera, Devan Rivera, Daevyon Rivera, William Green III, Kylynna Green and Zaevyon Green.

The family will receive friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 6, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, Shallotte. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Durham.
