
Sue ‘Suzy’ Swain Smallwood, 75, of Bolivia, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2016. She was born in Wake County at Rex Hospital and was ’39 and holding’ at the time of her passing. Suzy was in real estate for several years until she discovered a love for the antiques business, which is where she remained for over 20 years.
Suzy was preceded in death by the love of her life for 52 years, Boyce Smallwood; mother, Sahoie Dodd Swain; and father, Raymond Wesley Swain.
She is survived by sons, Ray Smallwood of Oak Island and Todd (Robi) Smallwood of Chesterfield, S.C.; granddaughters, Katherine Marie Smallwood of the home, Anderson Smallwood of Oak Island, Alyvia Todd Smallwood and Cloe Smallwood and Cara Williams, both of Chesterfield, S.C.; grandson, Holt Eddins of Chesterfield, S.C. Suzy; great-grandson, Zander William Smallwood of the home; sisters, Barbara McGann of Clearwater, Fla., and Carolyn Smallwood (Silas) King of Apex; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nephews and great-nieces, all of whom were special to her. In addition to family, remembered are special friends, Pat and Fred Ferguson, Bea Morgan, Frank and Sloan Fortenberry, Gail Hatley, Brenda Singletary and Dot Welch.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, at Peacock, Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family one hour prior to the service at 10 a.m. at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home. Burial will be held at 3 p.m. in Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh, officiated by Pastor Chad Vick.
A special thank you to her granddaughter, Katherine Marie Smallwood, whose special care for Suzy made it possible for her to stay at the home she had shared with Boyce. Also, we would like a special mention to Anderson Smallwood for her continued support and love during Suzy’s long period of ill health.
