Harrison Blake Taylor, 21, of Shallotte, died Sunday, April 17, 2015, as the result of an accident. He was born in Wilmington on July 22, 1994, a son of Raymond Scott Taylor and Valerie Reynolds Taylor. He was a member of Shallotte Presbyterian Church.
Harrison completed junior and senior high school at Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head Island, S.C. He was chosen to represent Brunswick County First Tee in the Nature Valley First Tee Open at Pebble Beach, an official Champions Tour event televised nationally on the Golf Channel. His foursome included Clint Eastwood, chairman of the event, and Jay Haas.
Harrison attended North Carolina State University in the nuclear engineering program, where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was employed by Duke Power as a procurement engineer.
He earned his captain’s license and enjoyed fishing, other water sports, and spending time with his dog, Klutch.
In the short span of time that we all knew the gift of having Harrison in our lives, we are better people for that blessing. There has never been a better son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, friend and most important – a bright light in all our lives. Thankfully, he will always live in our hearts.
In addition to his parents of Shallotte, Harrison is survived by his brother, Chandler Taylor of Shallotte Point; paternal grandmother, Dorothy G. Taylor of Kinston; maternal grandmother, Joan Owens, and maternal grandfather, Mark Owens, of Holden Beach; his special friend, Kara Wilcox; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to mention. He was loved by everyone that knew him.
A funeral service of burial and resurrection will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, at Shallotte Presbyterian Church with the Rev. John Causey officiating. The family will receive friends at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The First Tee of Brunswick County, P.O. Box 1820, Shallotte, NC 28459.
