
Kurt Calvin ‘Crazy Kurt’ Frankenfield, 61, of Southport passed away Monday, April 11, 2016.
Mr. Frankenfield was born September 7, 1954, son of Jeanne Leslie ‘Sally’ Case and the late Robert K. Frankenfield. Kurt was the owner and operator of Kurt’s Tree Service. He loved the water and was a lifelong surfer. Kurt loved to go clamming and deliver his catch to many friends all over Southport.
Beginning with his first hitchhiking trip at the age of 21 across the United States, he pursued his loved of the water along with his love to travel. Kurt traveled to Puerto Rico, Baja Mexico, Alaska, and many other interesting and exciting places, sometimes with his son, Bobby, along for the enjoyment. Kurt lived in Long Island, N.Y., and Ocracoke before making Southport his home around 1988. Kurt was a mentor, father figure to many, and a local legend earning him the name of ‘Crazy Kurt.’
In addition to his mother, Jeanne Leslie ‘Sally’ Case, survivors include his son, Robert ‘Bobby’ Frankenfield of Oak Island; longtime friend, Robin Mead of Southport; and many loving friends.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport.
