Doris Christine Gore, 96, of Carolina Beach, passed away Monday, April 11, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington. Doris was born on August 7, 1919, in Brunswick County to the late Phillip Marvin and Mary Mercer Cox.
Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to so many. She loved working in her garden and was happiest when surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Cape Fear Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, James A. Aldridge and Burnice Gore; son, Gary Aldridge; brother, Lloyd Cox; two sisters, Edna Jarman and Betty James; and granddaughter, Tanya Aldridge.
She is survived by her son, Bob Aldridge of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Geanne Aldridge of Carolina Beach; stepdaughter, Carol Hickman (Jacob); brother, Grover Cox (Diane) of Florida; four granddaughters, Amy Smith (Allen), Kristi Brewer (William), Meg Krennerick (Chris) and Abby Sidibe (Olivier); one great-granddaughter, three great-grandsons and one great-great-grandson; and many special nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 15, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral & Cremation Service, with the Rev. Johnathan Watson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be forwarded to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
