Virginia ‘Ginny’ Hopkins Powell, 80, of Rose Hill, left this earthly life for her eternal rest on Sunday, March 6, 2016.

She was born on December 19, 1935, in Blount County, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Alton Basil and Helen Irwin Hopkins. She was also preceded in death by her half-brother, Donald Everett. She was an active member of Rose Hill Baptist Church as long as her heath permitted. Virginia received her degree in nursing and served many years as a registered nurse with American Red Cross.

‘Ginny,’ as she was affectionately called, is survived by her devoted children, Scot Powell, and wife, Kathy, of Ashville, Ross Powell of Rose Hill, Kelly Stout, and husband, Daniel, of Dallas, Ga., and Alex Powell of Los Angeles, Calif.; her grandchildren, Lauren, Nicole, Mark, Walker, Worth, William and Elizabeth; sisters, Frances Whipple of Springfield, Miss., and Margie McNulty, and husband, Edward, of Omaha, Neb.

Ginny was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who loved her family dearly. She was a woman of uncommon character, who lived life to the fullest and enjoyed being around people. Ginny was a friend to all, a strong presence who looked for and encouraged everyone. She was a shoulder upon whom many found comfort and support. Ginny will surely be missed, but cherished memories of her will forever remain in our hearts.

Services are incomplete at this time.
