Elizabeth Jane Keefe, 94, of Wilmington, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2016.
She was born on August 14, 1921 in Madison, S.D., to the late Nicholas and Maude Wadden. She was educated at the University of South Dakota, where she earned a B.A. She taught high school in Faulkton and Wentworth, South Dakota and then moved to Denver, Colo. There, she was employed in an administrative position at the Veterans Administration.
She married the late Colin Keefe in 1951, and together they had five children. Elizabeth and her husband moved to Tucson, Ariz., in 1978, where she continued her career with the Veterans Administration. Upon retiring, she moved back to Denver in 1998 and then to Wilmington in 2007. Elizabeth was a devoted wife and mother and one of the most thoughtful and considerate people one could hope to meet. She endured many challenges in life and did so with grace. All who met her adored her.
Elizabeth is survived by her three sons, Kevin (Cindy), Michael (Lori) and John (Lynn) of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Kathleen (Tom) Barber of Wilmington; and seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and eight nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Colin Andrew Keefe; and a daughter, Darcie Michele Keefe.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 23, at St. Mark Catholic Church, 1011 Eastwood Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Dr. Wilmington, NC 28401.
