Margaret “Dolly” T. Simmons, of Hampstead, peacefully passed away Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016.
She was born Feb. 23, 1928 in Hanover, New Hampshire, the daughter of the late Vaughan Truell and Margaret Fields. Dolly is also preceded in death by a brother, Charles Truell, and a sister, Nancy Tenney.
She is survived by her husband, Charles E. Simmons Jr.; two sisters, Jean Henderson and Sally Holt, both of Enfield, New Hampshire; a son, Philip Sargent of Wilder, Vermont; a stepdaughter, Lacinda Broek and her husband of Deerfield, New Hampshire; three grandsons, Matthew Sargent of Wilder, Vermont, Michael Broek of Epsom, New Hampshire and John Broek of Manchester, New Hampshire; and two great-grandchildren, Bailey and Andrew Broek. Dolly was especially close to her niece, Susan Westerlund, her husband Aaron and their two children, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Dolly graduated from Hartford High School in White River Junction, Vermont in 1946. She worked for New England Telephone Co., Sprague Electric and General Electric in Hooksett, New Hampshire. She retired in 1980.
In 1980, she married the love of her life, Charles E Simmons Jr. and shortly after they moved to Wilmington, then on to Hampstead.
Margaret enjoyed playing tennis, golf (where she got three hole in one), traveling and spending time with her family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. There will also be a celebration of life in the spring in Vermont and New Hampshire for friends and family, at a time to be announced.
