Mildred “Billie”Fodrie Berry, 78, of St. James, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016.

Mrs. Berry was born in Washington, D.C., but was a longtime resident of Virginia. Billie graduated from James Monroe High School in Fredericksburg, Virginia and attended Mary Washington College.

Following her marriage to Nelson B. Berry, she and her husband lived briefly in Richmond, Virginia before moving back to Fredericksburg, where she and her husband had grown up. They relocated to Vienna, Virginia in 1966, where they lived for 38 years before retiring to St. James Plantation.

Following college and until her retirement in 2002, she had been employed by various companies, including the Richmond Area Heart Association, Reynolds Metal Company, Globe Newspapers, Record Printing Company, MAXM Systems and Inova Health Systems.

Mrs. Berry was preceded in death by her husband, Nelson Beveridge Berry, and her parents, Durwood and Helen Fodrie.

She is survived by her son, Nelson Earl Berry; a grandson, Brandon Lee Berry; her sister, Cynthia L. Counts; her brother, John Earl Fodrie; a niece; a nephew; and several grand-nieces, grand-nephews and cousins.

A graveside service will be held in the Falmouth Cemetery in Falmouth, Virginia. A memorial service will be held at a later date in St. James.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Paws Place, 3701 E. Boiling Springs Road, Winnabow, NC 28479.
