Lloyd George Hudson, 84, traveled the world as a Navy civil servant

Lloyd George Hudson, 84, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.

Born July 14, 1931 in Inkster, Michigan, he was the son of the late Jack Gregory Hudson and Mattie Leona Bowers Hudson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Joyce Aspenwall.

Mr. Hudson graduated from Wayne High School in Wayne, Michigan in 1949.

He began his Navy Civil Service career in April 1955 with the Publications Division, Administrative Office, Navy Department in Washington, D.C. This office later became the Navy Publishing and Printing Service and later part of the Defense Automated Publishing and Printing Service.

He left Washington in 1961 to assume duties as Director of the Publications Management Department at the Navy Publications and Printing Service Office, Sixth Naval District, Charleston, South Carolina.

In August 1965, he was promoted to the position of Deputy Director of Navy Publications and Printing Service Office, Fifth Naval District in Norfolk, Virginia. In May 1968, he was promoted to the position of Director.

In October 1984, he was promoted to the position of Director of Navy Publishing and Printing Service, Southeast Area, in Charleston, South Carolina, where he continued in this position until his retirement in January 1991 with 39 years and 9 months of federal service.

He holds a bachelor of science degree in general studies (general business) and an associate in arts degree from George Washington University. He has attended Henry Ford Community College, Florida State University and Old Dominion University at various times.

Mr. Hudson resided in the Wilmington area since June of 1993. He was a member of Harbor United Methodist Church. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. Over the years he was active in church activities, PTA, civic leagues and coaching youth sporting programs. He traveled extensively throughout the world in his career, with management responsibilities in operations in Europe, the Caribbean and the southeastern United States.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jessna Louise Simpson Hudson; sons, Keith Lloyd Hudson (Susan) of Chesapeake, Virginia and Brad Ward Hudson (Loren) of Rincon, Georgia; a daughter, Amy Louise Wolfe (Jeff) of Wilmington; grandchildren, Dustin Hudson, Ashley Hudson, Kelsey Hudson, Lindsey Hudson, Miranda Proudfoot, Keagan Shae Hudson and Christian Wolfe; two great-grandchildren; and sisters, Jacqueline Lewis and Ginger Torok.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5 at Harbor United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Andrews Valley Chapel and for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harbor United Methodist Church.
