Shirlene Skipper Scoggins, 73, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Wilmington on Sept. 29, 1942 she was the daughter of the late Rozelle and Rosaliee (Potter) Skipper.

She worked and supervised the Family Dollar store in Leland for many years. She was a member of Farmers Chapel Baptist Church of Leland.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William Scoggins; one son, Richard Wayne and his wife Rebecca Scoggins of Leland; two daughters, Sherry Scoggins of Leland and Vickie and husband Charles Mintz of Winnabow; three grandchildren, Tabitha and husband Omar Campos of Leland, Charles Jared and wife Kyndall of Leland and Daniel Jacobs Mintz of Leland. Also surviving are two great-grandchildren, Miranda Campos and Bryan Campos.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 26 at Farmers Chapel Baptist Church, 3459 Maco Road NE, Leland, NC. The family will receive friends one hour prior from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church, with Pastor Martin Benton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
