Joseph Clinton Davis, 70, Vietnam veteran who loved ‘The Waltons’ and ‘Bonanza’

Joseph Clinton “Joe” Davis, age 70, of Shallotte, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at his residence.

He was born in Columbus County on Sept. 11, 1945, the son of the late Herbert Davis and Gladys Pope Davis. He was preceded in death by four brothers, J. B. Davis, Elbert Davis, Stancil Davis and Bobby; and two sisters, Shelby Jean Davis and Ann Fowler.

Joe was a member of Shell Point Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of the Tabor City Lodge # 563 A.F. and A.M. He loved to play Solitaire and watch “The Waltons” and also “Bonanza.” Most of all, he loved his family.

Surviving are his loving wife of 35 years, Cathy Horne of the home; his children, Edd Joseph Davis, Jamie Brian Davis, Angela Dawn Davis and Randy Scott Davis, all of Shallotte; two brothers, Jerry Dillon Davis of Bladenboro and Danny Garland Davis of Chadbourn; a sister, Minnie Lee Smithers of Neptune City, New Jersey; and a grandson, Dalton “DJ” James Davis of Shallotte.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 23 at Shell Point Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve Stout officiating. Burial followed in the Shell Point Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Milton Williams, Edd Davis, Josh Williams, Keith Spivey, Jay Lancaster and Ricky Duncan.
