Eloise McLamb Hines, of Wilmington and formerly of Kinston, passed away Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016.
Born on Sept. 21, 1930 in Sampson County, she was the wife of the late Paul C. Hines, Jr and daughter of the late Elwood and Hazel McLamb. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Thomas and Daniel McLamb and sister, Mary Wright Clement.
She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Hines of Columbia, South Carolina and Mary Lynn Lawler and husband James of Raleigh; three grandsons, James Kyle, Patrick, Paul and fiancé Virginia Pylant; her sister, Lynn Owen and husband Edward; and many nieces and nephews.
She attended Campbell College and graduated from East Carolina Teacher’s College, after which she taught first grade for 30 years. Most of her career was spent in Kinston, where she was active at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church and in the choir. After Paul’s retirement they moved to Wilmington, where she thoroughly enjoyed being active in the choir, the Episcopal Church Women and the Daughters of the King at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound. She also served on numerous diocesan women’s committees.
Eloise, better known as “Weese” to many, was an outstanding wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, godmother, neighbor, friend and teacher. She was an avid quilter, enjoyed cooking and baking, and used those talents to love and serve everyone in her life. Her contagious spirit lives on in all who knew her.
During her illness, she continued to touch many lives while receiving care at home and at the Oakes at Mayview. The family is grateful for the outstanding care she experienced.
Her funeral and burial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21 at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound, with the Rev. Richard Elliott officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Andrew’s Mortuary on Market Street.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Andrews On-the-Sound Endowment Fund or to the Lay Association of Christian Missionaries for support of children in the poorest regions of Zambia, Africa, 10001 Sycamore Rd. Raleigh, NC 27613.
