Hosea Thomas ‘Tom’ Grant, served in the U.S. Coast Guard

obit flagHosea Thomas “Tom” Grant passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016.

Tom was born in Wilmington on June 5, 1945. He was a graduate of New Hanover High School and UNC-Wilmington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosea T Sr. and Dorothy Rhodes Grant, and his brother Daniel Rhodes Grant.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Shelby Holliday Grant; two daughters, Greta Mallard and Tara Bayse; and four grandchildren.

Tom was in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving four years in Alaska and Savannah, Georgia. He retired from CSX Railroad after 32 years of service. After his retirement he served at the Seamen’s Center of Wilmington.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 at Greenlawn Memorial Park. A celebration of Tom’s life will begin at 1 p.m. at Wrightsboro United Methodist Church, where the family will receive friends after the service.

The family requests no flowers be sent. Please consider a memorial contribution to Wrightsboro United Methodist Church.
