Elenore Theresa “Butch” Girard, 76, of Calabash, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Born on Jan. 8, 1940 in Seat Pleasant, Maryland, a daughter of the late Charles George and Evelyn Wells Penkert. She retired in 1993 as a supervisor with the U.S. Postal Service in Washington, DC.
Following retirement, she and her husband moved to Calabash in 1997.
Surviving are her husband of 57 years, Raymond A. Girard; three sons, Raymond A. Girard, Jr. (Young Mi), of Woodbine, Maryland, Michael S. Girard (Dylia), of Korea, and Charles L. Girard (Kim), of Prince Frederick, Maryland; daughter, Theresa A. Ruzicka (Edward), of Lusby, Maryland; sister, Mary Frances Ryon, of Carolina Shores; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15 in the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, where she was a parishioner and member of The Legion of Mary. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14 at Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel, with a prayer vigil at 3:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to an animal shelter of one’s choice in memory of Mrs. Girard.
