Michael Wayne Travis, 46, active sportsmen, devoted father

Michael (Mike) Wayne Travis, 46, a native of Gainesville, Florida and 18-year resident of Wilmington, passed away suddenly on Nov. 27, 2015.

He was born at Warner Robins Air Force Base in Georgia and raised in Gainesville.

In 1997, Mike and his new wife moved to Wilmington to continue the business interest of his uncle with Campbell Foods, Inc as the operational manager. After a successful sale of the business, Mike worked as an operations manager with Brock & Scott, PLLC and most recently was a new employee of Hendrick Toyota Scion of Wilmington. Mike also worked as a real estate agent for 25 years, helping many individuals with their real estate transactions.

Mike graduated from Buchholz High School in Gainesville and attended Quincy College in Quincy, Illinois where he played collegiate basketball. After his freshman year, Mike transferred to the University of Florida, where he graduated in 1992. He will be remembered by friends for his love of the Florida Gators and the good-natured rivalry that existed with them and with his extended family for other Southeastern Conference schools.

Mike was an active sportsman who enjoyed golfing, playing U.S. Tennis Association tennis and operating both remote-controlled cars and airplanes as a member of the Wilmington Model Flying Club. He was a devoted father who truly enjoyed spending time with his children, watching and teaching them golf and basketball. Mike and his family were active members of Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church.

Mike is survived by his wife, Allison Hand Travis and two children, Hannah and Jackson of Wilmington; his parents, Roger and Rosa Travis of Gainesville, Florida; a brother, Brian Travis (Courtney) of Huntington Beach, California; a sister, Gia Travis Arvin (Scott) of Gainesville, Florida; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, with a brief reception to follow. The family will receive friends before the service from 3 until 4 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alachua County Boys and Girls Club, PO Box 359452, Gainesville, FL 32635, where he grew up playing sports or to Carolina Beach Presbyterian Church, 1209 N. Lake Park Blvd, Carolina Beach, NC 28428.
