William Oates Hawley, 85, enjoyed reading and following the stock markets

William Oates “Bill” Hawley, 85, of Leland and formerly of Goldsboro, passed away Monday, Nov. 23, 2015 at the SECU Hospice House of Bolivia.

Bill was born in Goldsboro on Oct. 10, 1930, the son of the late Addison and Sallie Oates Hawley.

Bill graduated from N.C. State University in 1953 with a bachelor degree in Industrial Engineering and worked for General Electric in Goldsboro until his retirement. Bill served his country with honor and distinction as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington, and enjoyed reading, following the stock markets and using his computer.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Swaringen Hawley; son William Cameron Hawley and wife Susan; son Boyd Harrison Hawley and wife Kellee; and daughter Sarah Hawley Powell and husband Dean; his grandchildren, Anna, Meredith and Paige Hawley, Zack and Ashley Powell, Kerry Shimfessel and Carly Campbell; niece Gina Hawley; and many other family members.

Together with his parents he was predeceased by his brother, Addison Hawley.

The family will gather at Oleander Memorial Gardens for an inurnment service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 25.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bill’s memory to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401, would be greatly appreciated.
