Clyde William J. “Grumpy” Barber, of Shallotte,died Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, 19 days shy of turning 92.

He was born in Gaston County on Nov. 28, 1923, the son of the late William C. Barber and Jennie W. Barber. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Barber.

Mr. Barber was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII.

Surviving are two sons, Steve Barber and wife, Sheila, of Gastonia and Terry Barber and wife, Cindy, of Mt Holly; a stepdaughter, Betty Richardson and husband, JD, of Shallotte; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many other family members.

The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, at White Funeral and Cremation Service Shallotte Chapel, 3660 Express Drive Shallotte. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, 2015, at Sharon Free Will Baptist Church in Gastonia with Pastor Odell Cook officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow at Hill Crest Cemetery in Mount Holly.
