
Hugh “Tater” Brown, of Bolivia, died Nov. 2, 2015, at his home. He was 77.
Mr. Brown was born Nov. 14, 1937, in Brunswick County, the son of the late Willie and Dorothy Brown. He was a veteran of the N.C. National Guard and was a member of First Apostolic Church in Southport.
Mr. Brown worked as a leverman for 40 years for Atkinson and Wright Dredging Company. He also worked for eight years as a heavy equipment operator for CP&L. Mr. Brown loved to weld and tinker in his shop; if he couldn’t fix it, it couldn’t be fixed.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Clifton Brown and a sister, Thelma Spencer.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara Brown, of the home; one son, Michael Brown and wife Karen, of Bolivia; two daughters, Cindy Creech and husband Gordon, of Bolivia and Melissa Brown, of Raleigh; two brothers, W.B. Brown, of Bolivia and Donald Brown and wife Debbie, of Wilmington; a sister, Evie Bowling and husband Johnny, of Sunset Harbor; three grandchildren, Mindy Taylor and husband Don, of St. Pauls, Cory Brown, of Stem and Jordan Creech, of Bolivia; and three great-grandsons, Jasper, Jase and Jaxon Taylor, all of St. Pauls.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at the Brown Family Cemetery, with the Rev. Vernon Kelly and the Rev. Tom Fritchey officiating. No formal visitation will be held, however the family invites everyone to come to the home after the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Caper Fear Hospice Endowment Fund, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
