Johnny Howard Barnes, of Wilmington, died Oct. 18, 2015, surrounded by his wife, two daughters and grandchildren. He was 55.

Johnny was born Sept. 12, 1960, in Wilmington, son of the late Earl and Sylvia Barnes. He had two brothers, Gary (deceased) and Sonny and three sisters, Linda, Rachel and Angie. On March 27, 1987, Johnny married the love of his life, Angie (King). Their love exceeded beyond any earthly troubles.

Johnny loved his two daughters, April and Nicole, beyond words. He would go to the ends of the earth for them, coming to their rescue day or night. If they ever needed anything, whether it be a car fixed or someone to talk to, they could always call Daddy. Time spent with Daddy was always an educational one. He taught them about many important aspects of life, aspects that he hoped they would never experience personally and would do everything in his power to make sure that they didn’t. Johnny absolutely adored his daughters.

The same was true for his five grandchildren, Marquiel, Dasmine, Mya, Nickolas and Nianni. He loved them all each very much and was proud of each one of their many accomplishments. He will be watching over them in amazement of all the things they are going to do with their lives.

Johnny never met a stranger. He had a multitude of friends whom he cherished dearly. Everyone had a place of importance in his life, whether you had only just met or if you had been lifelong friends. There was always a laugh to be shared or (unsolicited) advice to be given. His wit and wisdom about the world in which he lived made him the lively conversationalist that we will always remember.

Johnny is now in heaven with his Savior, Jesus Christ. He has most likely already found his favorite bench with the best view for people watching.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends after the service.

Please leave online condolences for the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
