
Janice Vaughn Kinney, 72, of Raleigh died unto the Lord on the morning of Sunday, Sept. 13.
A native of Burlington, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Louise Pyle Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Doris Perry and Amy Shoffner, and her brother, Billy Vaughn.
Janice was a 1961 graduate of Walter Williams High School in Burlington and retired after 38 years of service with IBM Corporation in Raleigh. She was a long time active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Raleigh.
Surviving are her son William T. “Wink” Kinney (Jane) of Wilmington and formerly of Pinehurst; daughter Carmen Kinney Smith (Chad) of Glen Allen, Virginia; sister Molly Horsmon of Rock Hill, South Carolina; granddaughters Annie Kinney Worsman (Michael), Chandler and Campbell Smith; great granddaughter Annabelle Worsman; friend John Kinney (Kathryn) of Pinehurst.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 824 N. Bloodworth St., with the Rev. John Michael McAllister officiating. Inurnment will be at the historic Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-3 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
