Gustav Onzie Fowler Jr., of Leland, died Saturday, Aug. 15, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was 83.
Mr. Fowler was the son of the late Gustav Onzie Fowler Sr. and Katie Skipper Fowler. He was preceded by his wife and sweetheart, Annie Lee Fowler, in 1996 and his daughter, Sharon Fowler, in 1959.
Mr. Fowler served proudly in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Much of his later life he worked as service manager of Cape Fear Ford for 25 years and was a lifelong member of New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Donna Fowler and Jeff, of Leland; son, Tim Fowler and Marinda, of Leland; sisters, Callie Sue Harrison, of Leland and Joyce Spiegelberg, of Alabama; loving companion, Jean Smith; grandchildren, Brittany Fowler, Don Young Jr., Lucas Hall, Kris Strickland, Jennifer Grice, Tammy Chitwood and Brian Fowler; and great-grandchildren, Dylan Grice, Jacob Chitwood and Kenleigh Fowler.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2015, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015, at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Winnabow with the Rev. Bob Haywood officiating. Burial will be held at the church cemetery.
