Billy Shuford Cox, of Wilmington, died Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was 71.
He was born Aug. 17, 1943, in Wilmington, son of the late Hubert and Edith Powers Cox.
Shuford retired from Lucent Technologies, where he was a telecommunications specialist. He was a member and deacon of Scotts Hill Baptist Church and a veteran of the N.C. National Guard.
Shuford will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a man who loved God and walked faithfully with Christ. A man of humble character, he endeared himself to those who knew him by his generosity and lighthearted disposition. He was a man of integrity and a true and loyal friend.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Wilson Cox, of the home; children, Tiffany Thomas and husband, Alan, and Stephanie Miller and husband, Monty, all of Wilmington; grandchildren, Christian, Caleb, Jacob and Joshua Miller; brother, Othell Hyatt, of Wilmington; and sister, Marjorie Gurganous and husband, Cecil, of Wilmington.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2015, at Scotts Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
