Theodore Allen “Doc” Seely Jr., of Sunset Beach and formerly of Falls Church, Virginia, died Monday, July 27, 2015, at his residence. He was 84.
Born in Ithaca, New York, on Sept. 25, 1930, he was a son of the late Theodore A. Seely Sr. and Charlotte Bell Crandall Seely. He was preceded in death by his brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Phyllis Seely.
Doc retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service and was attached to the U.S. Marine Corps on several occasions. After retirement, he was the owner/operator of the Falls Church Service Center in Virginia. He and his wife Mary Ann then moved to Sunset Beach and because of his love of golf, he became involved in the Sea Trail Men’s Golf Association.
He was an American Red Cross shelter manager and will be remembered for his very kind and gentle nature. He loved walking, working in his yard and feeding the neighborhood birds and squirrels.
Doc is survived by his wife of 28 years, Mary Ann Seely; children, Debbie Hill, Tammy Schmidt (Mike), Ted Seely (Phylis), Beth Godoy, Cheryl Black (Larry) and Kelly Decker; siblings, Anne DeFrancisco (Sam), Jim Seely (Dorla), Tom Seely (Peg), Fred Seely (Evelyn) and Charlotte Daniel; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and very special friends, Ralph and Marti Kennedy.
A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 2015, at Pink Palace at Sea Trail Plantation with military honors beginning at 1 p.m. (casual dress please).
