
Joan M. (Burger) Kannaley, 84, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday December 3, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC. She lived for five years at Beltrone Living Center in Colonie, NY before moving to NC in July 2014. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Kannaley who preceded her in death in 1999 and the late Lawrence C. Burger, who died in 1991. She was also the daughter of the late Thomas V. Cargill and Marie Boyle Cargill.
Joan was born in Albany, NY on January 2, 1930 and lived most of her life in Albany before moving to Colonie in 1985. She attended the former St. Joseph’s Academy and Cathedral Academy in Albany. She worked for many years at Marsh Hallman Chevrolet and DePaula Chevrolet. Her last job before she retired was at Rojan Adjustment, Inc.
She was a communicant of the former Our Lady of Mercy parish in Colonie, where she was a member of the Rosary Society and served as a Greeter at the 5 p.m. liturgy. She was also a member of the Hart Senior Club.
She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who always considered her family a most precious blessing and thanked God every day for them. She also valued the many friends that she was blessed with through the years. She was an avid reader who read her Times Union newspaper every day.
Devoted mother of Deborah Nelson (Jack) of Clifton Park, NY, Michele Hilt of Leland, NC, Thomas Burger (Maureen) of Altamont, NY and Mary Beth Connors (Dave) of Stroudsburg, PA. Loving stepmother of Kathleen Barclay of Toms River, NJ and Paul P. Kannaley (Kim) of Lunenburg, MA.
She enjoyed her grandchildren most of all. Taylor Polsinelli (Adam), Andrew and Elizabeth Burger, Matthew Filardi, Aubrey Connors, Erin Nemiroff (Andrew), Laura Vanderhoef (Jesse) and Kristie, Connor and Ryan Kannaley. Great grandmother of Tyler and Mia Nemiroff and Jamie Vanderhoef. She is also survived by several cousins and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, December 9, 2014 from McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen Street, Albany thence to Blessed Sacrament Church, Albany at 9 a.m., where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
Relatives and friends are invited and may visit from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, December 8, 2014 in the funeral home.
Interment Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.
