PENDER COUNTY — 911 operations in Pender County had been relocated after a small electrical fire but are now back to normal operations.
The county reported Tuesday, July 14, that the alarm at the Pender County Sheriff’s Office went off Sunday evening around 10:32 p.m. The Burgaw Fire Department responded to the scene and found a small electrical fire after an electrical panel had started arcing, an electrical current flow that can create extreme heat and sparking. The arcing began after heavy rain created a water leak from the roof.
Due to the fire, the 911 Dispatch Center was moved to a different location for the evening. Pender County Sheriff’s Office, 911 Administration, Information Technology Services and Facilities all aided in the relocation efforts.
While Pender County Facilities continue to assess the area and conduct repairs, normal operations have resumed. The Dispatch Center returned to the Sheriff’s Office Monday July 13.
No 911 communications, emergency communications or radio communications were impacted.
