PENDER COUNTY — Beginning this school year, Pender County Schools will implement a clear bag policy 5021 for all major events held on the campuses of PCS high schools, including football and basketball games.

The policy was approved at the Aug. 12 school board meeting to enhance safety and streamline event entry. All bags, except for approved exceptions, that enter an event must be:

  • Clear plastic or vinyl bags not exceeding 12” x 6” x 12” in size
  • Clear plastic freezer/sandwich bags (gallon-size or smaller)

Approved exceptions, which do not need to be clear but will be subject to inspection at an entrance,

  • Small clutch bags no larger than 4.5” x 6.5” (about the size of a hand), with or without a handle or strap
  • Medically necessary items
  • Diaper bags when accompanied by an infant or toddler

“This policy mirrors safety measures already in place at many universities and professional sports venues,” PCS Athletic Director Matt Davis said in a press release. “It’s a proactive step to ensure our students, families, and fans can enjoy events in a safe environment.
