The incident occurred shortly after 11:15 p.m. when the Wilmington Police Department, Wilmington Fire Department, and Novant EMS responded to a report at 340 S. Turners Run.
During the initial investigation, officials determined that the bullet originated from a neighboring apartment. It traveled through a wall of the adjacent residence before striking the young child. As a result of the investigation, Rouse-Moody has been charged with multiple offenses, including discharge of a firearm in an occupied structure/vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, and discharge of a firearm in a reckless manner.
He is currently being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center. Rouse-Moody will have his first appearance in courtroom 100 at 2 p.m. today, June 24.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting remains ongoing, and the WPD indicated more information will be released as it becomes available.
