“I am honored to accept the nomination for District Attorney, and more importantly, I am committed to serving with integrity and fairness in all matters,” Donaldson said in a Friday press release. “Together, we can build a safer and more-equitable future for all local residents.”
Donaldson is a Wilmington native who has served as assistant district attorney for over a decade. She is competing in the November election against Republican candidate Jason Smith, who is also a longtime assistant DA for North Carolina’s sixth prosecutorial district.
Donaldson’s platform is focused on addressing local fentanyl abuse, ensuring fair trials, reducing gun violence, and supporting community-based programs to reduce recidivism. The Democratic Prosecutorial District Committee — composed of elected members of New Hanover and Pender Counties — cited Donaldson’s commitment to transparency, rehabilitation, and accountability as reasons for selecting her in their candidate for the 2024 election.
