NEW HANOVER COUNTY — Spots are available in the county’s adult day care program for eligible residents.
The program, held at Elderhaus at the Lake, 1950 Ampitheater Drive, provides adults with access to services during the day in community group setting to support their independence, well-being and safety. Activities offered include exercise groups, arts and crafts, educational events, music and religious programs. Participants also receive lunch.
New Hanover County will pay for transportation to and from the adult program — which is offered two to five days per week — if needed. Participation is based on the adult and caregivers’ needs, the day care’s availability and funding.
To be eligible for adult day care, participants must be at least 18 years old and have physical or cognitive deficits that require supervision or socialization.
Adults who require medication or assistance with certain tasks such as personal care, feeding, ambulation and toileting, are still eligible but could fall under a higher level of care program called Adult Day Health.
For more information or to apply, call New Hanover County’s social services department at 910-798-3506 and a social workers will call to set up an assessment.
