WILMINGTON — Following a little more than a year on the job, a Wilmington deputy city manager has been placed on administrative leave after an arrest Thursday afternoon.

According to New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Jerry Brewer, at 4:20 p.m, Mary Vigue was pulled over at a license checkpoint at the 1900 block of East Lake Shore Drive. Deputies noticed she was under the influence of alcohol; she was arrested at the scene.

Vigue was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.

“The City of Wilmington has administrative policies and procedures for situations such as these, and the city is following those at this time,” city spokesperson Dylan Lee shared in an emailed statement. “The employee has been placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation. As this pertains to a personnel matter, no additional information is currently available.”

Vigue began her current role with the city May 23, 2022, after serving the City of Raleigh for five years. She previously held the role of assistant city manager for the City of Greensboro, as well as executive director of an education foundation.
