SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — A program that trains, recruits and oversees volunteers that work with children in the juvenile system is hosting an open house at the beginning of March.

The Guardian ad Litem Program of New Hanover and Pender counties will welcome community members to learn more about its outreach on Thursday, March 9, at 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A division of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts, volunteer advocates help abused, neglected, and dependent children in the juvenile system find a safe, permanent home. They work with an attorney to form a plan for children in need.

Last year with community help, the program advocated for more than 500 children, according to a press release.

Anyone with interest in volunteer opportunities can contact the New Hanover and Pender County GAL office at 910-343-5362 or find out more here.
