WILMINGTON — Wilmington Police Department has taken a man into custody after a girl was shot on Jan. 28.
Officers arrived at the 3600 block of Metting Road at 11:16 p.m. that evening to find a 16-year-old girl with a “non-life-threatening” gunshot wound. She was taken to Novant Health New Hanover Reaching Medical Center for treatment.
Officers found Demirion Barnett, 19, crouched behind a vehicle and he was detained on the spot. WPD allegedly found three guns underneath the vehicle and searched the residence at the site, discovering another gun and half-a-pound of marijuana.
Barnett was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, three counts of carrying a concealed gun and one count of possession of a weapon with an altered serial number. He is being heald at the New Hanover County Detention Center with no bond.
The shooting itself is still under investigation.
