BRUNSWICK COUNTY — A Shallotte man tried his luck at a scratch off and won big.
Carl Mac Phee bought a $100 Million Mega Cash scratch-off ticket for $20 from the Publix on East Oak Island Drive in Oak Island. He won $100,000 from the purchase and picked up his earnings Tuesday at lottery headquarters in Raleigh.
After required state and federal tax withholdings, Mc Phee took home $71,256.
Ticket sales from scratch-off games add to the lottery’s education fund. It raises on average more than $2.5 million daily statewide. Last year, Brunswick County received $5.9 million from lottery revenues to assist with education projects and capital projects.
