
WILMINGTON — The Wilmington Police Department has concluded its investigation of of a suspicious package at City Hall in downtown Wilmington this morning, finding the item to be a “non-threatening, non-perishable item.”
Police found the package around 9 a.m. Officers blocked off the sidewalk in front and on the sides of the building in the 100 block of North 3rd Street while the investigation took place.
Along with the Wilmington Fire Department and Novant Health EMS, The Cape Fear Regional Special Teams Bomb Squad was on the scene following suspicious package protocol. Around 10:20 a.m., officers sent a bomb-detection robot into the building as part of its investigation.
WPD follows suspicious package protocol anytime that a package is not properly addressed or is left in a suspicious manner.
