Government office holiday hours, trash pick-up schedules

SOUTHEASTERN N.C. — As the Christmas and Chanukah holidays have arrived, the county and city government entities have announced closures. It also could affect waste-management times.

Below is the breakdown in the tri-county region:

New Hanover County

  • County offices, libraries, and clinics: Closed Dec 23, 26-27
  • Airlie Gardens: Closed Dec. 24-26
  • Arboretum: Grounds open
  • Cape Fear Museum: Closed Dec. 24-26
  • Landfill: Closed Dec. 24-25
  • HHW/HazWagon: Closed Dec. 24-26

City of Wilmington

  • City offices: Closed Dec. 23-27 and Jan. 2
  • Trash and recycling collection dates not affected for Christmas holiday; carts should be out before 6 a.m. on regular service day. Appointment collections (bulky, metal, or electronic items) for Dec. 23-28 must be scheduled before 4 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22.
  • Trash and recycling routes normally scheduled on Monday, Jan. 2, will moved to Wednesday, Jan. 4; carts should be out by 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Town of Carolina Beach

  • City offices and operations: Closed Dec. 22-27

Town of Kure Beach

  • City offices and operations: Closed Dec. 23-27

Town of Wrightsville Beach

  • No trash pickup on Christmas or New Year’s days

Brunswick County

  • County offices and library: Closed Dec. 23-27 and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023
  • Trash and recycling collection dates not affected; carts should be out before 6 a.m. on regular service day.
  • Brunswick County Landfill: Closed Dec 24-26; reopens on regular schedule Tuesday, Dec. 27. Open on regular schedule Monday, Jan. 2, 2023
  • Convenience centers: Closed Dec. 24-26. Opens on regular schedule Monday, Jan. 2, 2023
  • Water and sewer emergencies: Brunswick County Public Utilities customers who need help after hours or during county-observed holidays can call these numbers for assistance: 910-755-7921, 910-371-3490 and 910-454-0512.

Town of Belville

  • City offices: Closed Dec. 23-27 and Jan. 2

Town of Southport

  • Town offices: Dec. 26 and Jan. 2
  • No registrations or licenses available Wednesday, Dec. 28

Town of Oak Island

  • Town offices and recreation center: Dec. 23-27
  • Garbage and recycling: Town Disposal Convenience site closed Dec. 23; no interruption in the normal collection schedule
  • Police, fire, and other emergency services not affected
  • OKI Pier and Pier House open during seasonal hours, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Parks, public beach and water access locations, and facilities open

Town of Leland

  • Town offices and facilities: Dec. 23-27 and Jan. 2
  • Vegetative debris drop-off center closed next two Saturdays, Dec. 24 and 31

Pender County

  • County offices: Closed Dec. 23-27
  • Pender County Solid Waste Convenience Centers will operate Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Closed for Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Regular convenience hours will resume Dec. 26
  • Water emergencies: Pender County Utilities emergency line at 910-471-1041

Town of Burgaw

  • Town offices: Closed Dec. 23-27 and Jan. 2

Town of Surf City

  • Town offices: Closed Dec. 22-27 and Jan. 2

Town of Topsail Beach

  • Town offices: Closed Dec. 22-27 and noon Dec. 30 – Jan. 2
